  4. %    To add a beacon to the map, supply data in the form

  7. %         if no beam direction is given or if it is 360,
  8. %          then repeater antenna is omnidirectional
  9. %        the trailing '1' is an optional flag to print
  10. %           the text below the symbol rather than on top (default)

  12. %    beacon: is for a regular beacon
  13. %    BEACON: is for a beacon that you want to be
  14. %    specially marked (like your club's) beacon.
  15. %    The routines to make a beacon "special" are in az_proj.ps.
  16. %    If you make up a "special" routine that you like
  17. %    better than ours, send it along. We might like it better too.
  18. %
  19. %    CAVEAT: Some of the beacons are directional. Unless the
  20. %    beacon is relatively close (say 500-100km depending on
  21. %    the accuracy you're interested in), then the path of the
  22. %    radio wave (which is following a great circle) will be
  23. %    curved on the map (like the lines of constant longitude).
  24. %    Only the great circle lines to and from the QTH are straight
  25. %    on this projection. So if the beacon is pointing at you on
  26. %    the azimuthal projection map it will be pointing at you in
  27. %    physical reality too. However if the map says it is pointing
  28. %    somewhere else, you may not even be able to guess the path
  29. %     of the radio wave on the map surface. For that you should do
  30. %    a projection from the beacon's site.
  31. %
  32. %
  33. % The format for the 6m beacon data has been changed to a machine readable
  34. % form of the format used by Emil W3EP.
  35. % Unused information in the original file, that is not used
  36. % here has been moved to the right hand side of the line
  37. % (where it is ignored by az_proj.ps).
  38. % Beacons without grid square locators, or which aren't obviously
  39. % operational are commented out.

  42. %There follows my revised 50MHz beacon list, incorporating information
  43. %from everyone who was kind enough to send in information in response to
  44. %my request, especially Bob W3OTC, who put the results of his recent
  45. %'census' of W/VE beacons at my disposal. In compiling the list I have
  46. %done my best to eliminate dead wood, but there are still a great many
  47. %more queries than I would wish as I did not want to delete anything
  48. %unless I was convinced the beacon was dead. Some NON-OP beacons have
  49. %been left in because information suggested that they might return.
